Personal Statement Mentor Scheme

The Oxford University Islamic Society invites you to the two-part online mentor scheme for Year 13 students writing their personal statements. The workshops are tailored to supporting young, ambitious students who are considering applying to Oxford and other elite universities.

Please read below for more details and apply via this form:

The first session will comprise a 1-hour workshop that will cover personal statements, what tutors look for in an application and a Q&A at the end. It will be led by a current Oxford student studying that course, in which they will point out what makes a successful application with an example personal statement.

The second will be a follow-up session, where we will ask selected participants to email a draft personal statement for our student volunteers to look over and provide comments. This will be a one-to-one session and suggestions on improvements will be given during the appointment.

As this requires a larger commitment, the second session is heavily dependent upon our volunteer availability, so it will not be possible to get every personal statement reviewed.

DATES : Saturday 18th September, 1:00-2:30pm and Sunday 26th September
Further details on individual timings for the second workshop are to follow

APPLICATION DEADLINE: Wednesday 8th September 2021, 11:59pm

Please note, this scheme is NOT restricted to Muslim students, therefore anyone can apply. However, we will prioritise students from disadvantaged backgrounds, underrepresented groups and those on free school meals.

You will be notified if you were successful in securing a place for the mentor scheme. Please look out for emails from outreach@ouisoc.org (be sure to check your junk/spam) and for any questions, feel free to send an email.
