Religious Education
At OUISOC, we host a range of activities and events designed to support each other’s spiritual growth and make the most of our time here at Oxford. We don’t expect anyone to commit to everything - join in wherever and whenever suits you ! Our entire RE program is abot building a supportive and enriching community. Whatever stage you’re at, there’s a place here to deepen your understanding and nurture your spiritual wellbeing while studying here.
Every Wednesday, we run The Essentials Islamic courses by Roots academy, covering essential topics from the Seerah (the life of the Prophet Muhammed ﷺ), Imam foundations, to Practical spirituality. These courses look to make Islam engaging, interactive, and accessible to all, whether you are new to Islam or looking to deepen your understanding.
In addition, we have our Foundations of Faith workshops. These half-day session are held once a term, and deeply focus on key aspects of Islam, allowing plenty of room for questions and discussion. This allows you the opportunity to sit down with scholars, and gain a well-rounded understanding of practising Islam day-to-day.
Our main focus is on the Qur’an, tieing all of our events together. Our weekly Qur’an circle for both brothers and sisters procude a relaxed space for recitation and reflection. For those interested in a more in-depth exploration, our weekly tafsir sessions with Sheikh Riyad delve into the meaning and context of the Qur’an, enhancing your understanding in a more academic way. There is also our long-standing Q-club, a 15 year ISOC tradition where Dr. Saquab Ashraf takes us on an engaging journey through a Surah twice a term.
We also host one-off speaker events throughout the year, where we invite inspiring guests to offer fresh new perspectives.
