Prayer room notice

We are pleased to announce that the long-awaited refurbishment of the Prayer Room will take place after Eid, from 1st April to 20th April.

During this period, the Prayer Room will be completely closed and will not be accessible. This also means that Friday prayers will not be held here on 4th, 11th, and 18th April, so please make alternative arrangements.

To clarify, Eid prayer will still be held, inshaAllah, on the 30th or 31st of March.

Jazakum Allahu khayran for your patience and understanding.

Jumu’ah Update

There will be three Jama’ahs for Jumu’ah starting from the 25th April at 13:15, 13:55, and 14:45

Letter from the President

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبر كا ته

Assalamu’Alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh

A very warm welcome to the Oxford Islamic Society! The ISoc exists to support Muslim students throughout their time at Oxford, socially, spiritually, and personally. Whether you’re in your first year or final year, this community is here to walk with you through it all.

We’re proud to be one of the most active and welcoming societies in Oxford. From social events to spiritual reminders, we offer a wide range of opportunities for you to connect, reflect, and grow. Whether you’re looking to unwind with friends, deepen your understanding of Islam, or
simply find your people, there’s something for you here.

Our social calendar is always lively, with regular game nights, punting trips, restaurant dinners, post-prayer pizza gatherings, and much more. These events offer a chance to take a breather from the intensity of Oxford life and build friendships that, in many cases, last far beyond your university years.

But we know that university life isn’t just about what happens on the surface. It’s a time when many of us ask big questions, search for meaning, and navigate challenges that test our identity and direction. Through our weekly Roots classes and regular sessions with esteemed scholars, we aim to offer a space where students can reconnect with Allah ﷻ, find grounding in their faith, and develop a sense of purpose rooted in something deeper than the next deadline.

Importantly, our doors are open to all. We believe Islam has something meaningful to offer everyone, and we welcome students of all backgrounds and beliefs to attend our events, engage in dialogue, and learn more about Islam in a respectful, open, and thoughtful environment. Whether you’re here to explore or looking for clarity, you are most welcome.

When I first arrived at Oxford, I wasn’t sure what to expect. But what I found was a warm, tight-knit community of brothers and sisters who genuinely looked out for one another. The ISoc quickly became my home away from home, and I hope and pray it becomes the same for you.

To keep up with what’s happening, follow us on Instagram: @oxforduni_isoc. If you ever have any questions, ideas, or just want to chat, don’t hesitate to get in touch.

What We Do

Our ISoc is a student-run body and serves as the focal point for Muslims in Oxford. We have an open and diverse membership, and a reputation for being amongst the University’s most vibrant and active societies. We aim to organise a host of different activities, services and events to engage and bring together the Muslim community in Oxford.

Events

We host a wide array of events throughout the year, ranging from religious educational events to our popular socials. We also run events that engage with our local communities and offer opportunities for non-Muslims to discover more about our religion.

Religious Education

We host a wide range of religious educational events, from speaker events to regular Islamic classes at both intensive and beginner levels.

Outreach

Our goal is to inspire Muslims students who have the potential to thrive at Oxford and equip them with the skills required to do so. The Oxford Muslim Access Conference has been launched to address the barriers affecting Muslim students applying to top institutions.
